7 Beauty Tips For Girls To Enhance Your Natural Beauty

Never underestimate how you look to others! Since we all have eyes, then it is fair to say that beauty is really in the eye of the beholder, thus the importance of this first impression. In this article, which focuses on beauty tips for girls, you will discover how you can learn how to be beautiful by following some of the tips shared in this discussion.

Beauty Tip #1: Your Smile

One of the first things most people look at when meeting another person is their face. As such the most noticeable item is probably your teeth, as everyone appreciates a nice smile. Thus the importance of making your teeth and smile the best they can be. That all important first impression makes the smile one of our top beauty tips for girls. For some girls, this may mean regular dental appointments to ensure their teeth are healthy and perhaps even the use of braces to ensure straight teeth or whitening treatments or products to make their teeth pearly white resulting in an attractive smile.

Beauty Tip #2: Your Scent

Probably a very obvious one of our beauty tips for girls is to avoid body odour, which means having regular showers and employing good basic hygiene. Another important consideration is your body’s scent, or how you smell to people around you, as you want to leave a good impression. Time to shop around and find a scent that compliments you. Remember to only apply enough perfume for people to notice, but not so much that their eyes are watering. It is much better to apply your perfume in small, memorable amounts rather than overdoing it and turning people off.

Beauty Tip #3: Your Make-up

Similar to what we commented on concerning wearing the right amount of perfume, too much make-up can make you look worse than none at all. So remember the moderation rule again. Just use enough make-up to help you look attractive, but do not overdo it and have excess amounts covering your face. Having the correct balance is essential. You want to attain a naturally looking attractive look when applying your make-up. Otherwise you run the risk of looking cheap. This is not something we would recommend in our beauty tips!

Beauty Tip #4: What You Eat

Eating the right foods will help you look good and feel good as well. It is important to eat a healthy balanced diet if you want to look healthy to those around you. So ensure that your diet includes the proper vitamins and mineral necessary to promote a healthy eating regime and this will be reflected in how your body looks and feels. Also don’t forget the importance of drinking enough water!

Beauty Tip #5: Value Of Exercise

Without proper exercise, we all tend to gain weight. Being overweight and obese is not going to attract very many people and allow them to get to know you better. Generally girls who are in shape are going to get more attention and appear more attractive to others than those who are fat and out of shape from eating junk foods and not exercising. Being in good shape is not only healthier and makes you look better, but it also makes you feel good about yourself. For many readers, this might be one of the best beauty tips in this article.

Beauty Tip #6: What You Wear

Often what you wear can help to offset any shortcomings that you may have due to your looks and general body physique. So what you wear can be an important consideration when learning how to be beautiful. Choosing the types of clothes that enhance your best features and minimize your poor ones is a very smart choice when shopping. Sometimes buying what is trendy is not in your best interest if you wish to look attractive.

Beauty Tip #7: Confidence

Confidence or a lack of self-confidence is extremely important. How often have you seen girls that may not be the most beautiful still be the most popular? Often it is because they are very confident and this feeling is picked up by others as well. Having lots of self-confidence means that you feel good about yourself and will not let others put you down, bully you, or do anything that will make you feel bad about who you are or what you may look like. Confident people are like a magnet and tend to attract others who want to be around them.

Learning how to be beautiful is not something that you can master over night or in a day or two. It is an on-going self-improvement project and depending on where you are in the process will determine how long it may take you. This may also influence the number of these beauty tips that you need to add to your current lifestyle.

Still, if you are willing to work hard on your self-improvement and consistently apply some or all of these beauty tips for girls in your life, then you will begin to feel better about yourself and your ability to appear attractive to others as well.

I sincerely hope that you found these beauty tips for girls useful and take action today!

Beauty Tips for Bedtime

Your life as a woman can be hectic and sometimes, you may be too busy to even think about pampering yourselves, but believe me, it is necessary; not only for beauty’s sake, but for your overall health, hygiene and self-esteem. You will feel more attractive and innately feminine.

The Benefits

The benefits outweigh the time you have to devote to this little ritual each day and night. The best products will get the best results. Remember, that exposure to the sun, sweat and other air pollutants during the day time can damage your skin. At night, your skin will be able to absorb the application of excellent skin products without interference from the outdoor influences. The pores in your skin need the essential beauty crèmes and moisturizers to be rejuvenated and repaired.

In addition, those products that will make your skin look oily and sticky during the day time can be applied on your skin at night. There are more benefits than disadvantages in enhancing and improving your skin before bedtime as long as you use hypoallergenic and natural products. It is recommended that you use FDA approved products.

Here are some really good tips to follow:

  • Never, never, never go to bed with makeup on
  • To get that youthful and fresh appearance, use skin moisturize before you retire for the night
  • Use a sweet-scented lotion to soothe you mentally before bedtime
  • Use a wide toothed comb on your hair to increase blood circulation on your scalp

The Wisdom in Taking Off Your Makeup

Makeup might not take long to apply during the mornings, but after you have had a long day at the office and come home tired, it might seem like quite a task to get that lipstick, cream, powder, foundation, eyeliner and eye shadow off before crawling into bed exhausted. Forget the excuses. It will be worth it!

The reasons:

  • Leaving makeup on overnight will result in skin breakouts, blemishes or acne
  • Dirt and bacteria from the environment will clog your pores and damage your skin
  • Your skin won’t be able to breathe well with makeup left on. It creates a barrier between the air and your epidermis
  • Your skin will age faster as a result of not removing makeup with a facial cleanser and then applying a moisturizer or anti-aging crème
  • You will have supple, youthful and soft skin if you carry out your bedtime beauty habit

Other Tips

It is preferred that you sleep on satin sheets and pillow cases. Why? This helps you to avoid any extreme friction between the sheets, your hair and skin. It reduces the chances of hair breakage and skin creases that may result in future wrinkles. Apply a lip balm at night as well. This protects your lips, keeps it soft and prevents it from stripping.

Your skin, hair and face are not to be taken for granted. You only have several years to take care of it right before the aging process begins. Why do you think some people age gracefully? It is because they did a good job while they were younger. The time is now and it is never too late at all!

Organic Gardens – Helpful Ideas and Tips

Organic gardening is growing in popularity as people increasingly see the need to avoid chemicals and synthetic products. Organic gardens also provide protection form genetically modified organisms (GMO) in the garden.

Those who take up organic gardening often are at a loss as to where to buy supplies. They don’t know what products they need for soil nourishment or pest control. They may not know how much water to supply, or how to go about composting kitchen scraps for their gardens. They need more than a few organic garden tips and ideas.

Organic garden helpful ideas and tips are widely available, if you know where to find them. Here are a few places to begin your search.

Organic Garden Helpful Ideas

One of my favourite organic garden tips is this one. The most important thing you can do to control pests in the organic garden is to keep the soil healthy. Healthy soil produces healthy plants. Healthy plants, like healthy humans, are better able to withstand disease.

A second helpful organic garden idea I like is to control pests with ladybirds (ladybugs). These beautiful little red insects with shiny black spots control aphids naturally and totally. You can order them from several organic garden places on the Internet. Until they arrive, spray every part of aphid-infested plants with well diluted soapy water. Rinse with clear water.

My third favourite organic gardening idea is to plant guardian plants around and among tender vegetables. Marigolds make the organic garden border colourful, and ward off many pests. Onions and garlic are also great deterrents to pests that would like to break in and steal organic produce.

The Ancient Roman Coin System

Some of the most common ancient Roman coins include the aureus (gold), denarius (silver), and the sestertius (bronze). These coins were minted from half way through the third century BC till half way through the third century AD.

Antoninianus – This coin, valued at 2 denarii, was brought into play in the Roman Empire by Caracalla in 215. Initially launched as a silver coin, it was later lowered down to the bronze metallic appearance. The silver coin looked analogous to the denarius. The difference was it was larger and its characteristic trait was that it featured the emperor wearing a crown and hence was valued almost twice that of a denarius.

This coin was highly responsible for increasing inflation as it was a fact that the actual silver usage was just 1.5 denarii. As the many emperors and rebels paid their soldiers with them, the antoninianus lost even more silver content with every new issue until nearly the entire coin was made of bronze. Shop owners to compensate for this lower silver content slowly raised their prices.

Denarius – The most widely used coin in the Roman Empire and it was made up of silver, minted initially in 211 BC. For the first century its weight remained around 4 grams but later got degraded to 3.4 under the reign of Nero. Till the middle of the third century the predominance of this coin prevailed but after the launch of the antoninianus this coin was discontinued. It was also observed that the last insurance of these coins were in the bronze metal shape and were found in 270 to 275 AD.

Initially with the weight of 4 grams it was supposed to net ten times the asses and hence it was named as “denaris.” Even after their discontinuation, the legacy of these coins continued and was used by Arabs in particular.

Sestertius – This coin was initially a small silver coin priced at one quarter of denarius. However in 23 BC during the reformation of Augustus the coin equaled to the domination of a huge brass coin. Initially they were manufactured at the mint of Rome but when Nero came to power, these coins were produced at the mint of Lyon. These brass coins weighed around 28 grams and had a diameter of 34 mm and were almost 4mm in thickness.

There was a notable difference between brass and bronze for the Romans. Brass was considered as double the value of bronze as the former one resembled gold like appearance and was termed as “gold copper.” The last sestertius coins were considered to be minted during the Aurelian.

5 Incredible Facts About Medicine of the Ancient Romans

In the ancient world, the Greeks and Romans were brothers. There was the obvious close proximity of the two countries. However, their relationship was deeper than that. In fact, their cultures were so closely linked that the Greeks and Romans shared gods with different names, but similar backgrounds! However, both groups maintained a unique history and culture. For instances, here are some of the highlights about ancient Roman medicine:

1. Doctors were vital to the Roman Empire

The Roman’s Empire’s public health system was actually quite broad. While doctors in ancient Rome could receive formal training, here are some other interesting facts about them:

  • Anyone in ancient Rome could refer to himself or herself as a “doctor.”
  • Doctors would often serve as surgeons in the Roman Empire’s army.
  • Several female doctors existed.
  • Women typically served the healthcare needs of other women.
  • Doctors provided free healthcare services, to those living in impoverished towns.

2. Much of Roman medicine was Greek medicine

The Roman defeated the Greeks, in the former’s formation of the Roman Empire. Afterwards, Roman doctors then accepted many of the ideas that the Greeks had, concerning medicine. In fact, most of the doctors who were practicing in the Roman Empire–were Greek! Furthermore, the works of Hippocrates, the Greek “Father of Medicine,” served as the basis for numerous Roman doctors’ training.

3. The Romans focused on public health

Obviously, the Romans were unaware of bacteria, and the use of cheap urbane scrubs to reduce their transmission. However, the Romans placed an emphasis on public health. Improvement in personal hygiene would ultimately improve public health and reduce diseases’ occurrence.

4. Rome further developed the Greek’s theories about medicines

The Romans adhered to many of the beliefs of the Greeks, about maintaining the health of humans. For instance, they focused on the importance of cleanliness and exercise. This was due to the Romans’ borrowing theories from the Greek, Hippocrates. A second century AD Greek doctor, Galen, was instrumental in developing these theories. Galen further developed Hippocrates’ notion that human bodies contained four “humours.”

5. Galen influenced both Roman and European medicine

In addition to affecting Roman medicine, Galen also influenced European medicine for more than 15 centuries! His theories and practices focused on obtaining a balance of the four humours, which he believed were inside human bodies.

The Romans would obtain advice from their doctors, while also presenting offers to various Roman gods, such as the Roman goddess of safety–Salus. Interestingly, during the 3rd century BC, this god became linked to Hygieia–the Greek goddess related to healing. Furthermore, the Romans also used Temples of Asclepius, which had originated from the Greeks.

While the Romans were not as innovative as the Greeks were, in the study of medicine, the former certainly contributed to the development of Greek concepts related to medicine. Ultimately, the Romans improved humans’ overall understanding of hygiene and health, which is noteworthy. After conquering the Greeks, the Romans would contribute to humans’ epic war on bacteria!

Did Humans Descend From Aliens?

Theorists who believe in the Ancient Astronaut sometimes also believe that Humanity was created, or bred, to be subservient to some master race. This theory, at first, holds little grounds, and in fact defies the concept of genetic drift, adaptation, and cultural independence.

My humble opinion is that we should attempt to understand the concept first. Many believe that we were bred, to serve the Annunaki, who were extra-terrestrial beings who came to Earth in early history (and posed as gods; thus the word Annunaki, which were the gods of the Sumerian City-states), and commanded us to mine gold for them.

However, a few good questions remain. Most importantly, where did the Annunaki go? Once you have an asset, and an asset so powerful as religious control of a people, and to combine that with technological superiority, it shouldn’t have been hard for them to remain in power over us for millennia, and then to exterminate us when we became rebellious.

Indeed, that begs a bigger question. Why would superior Alien beings bother to inter-breed or Hybridize, unless it was a part of a program of Colonization (to speed up adaptation). Indeed, if they were after some resource on our planet, and came from another solar system, the would have had more than enough power to annihilate us…and it should have been quite easy.

Logic quickly fades away these thoughts, and I come to think that we aren’t descendants of Aliens… less their motives are far more complex than we can imagine.

7 Tips to Remove a Ghost From Your Home

After over 14 years of clearing ghosts from homes and freeing people from the negative hold of disembodied souls we are convinced that ghosts are a lot more common than people realize. Hollywood has demonized (literally) the phenomenon, but don’t be afraid. In reality, most are more of a nuisance than threat, much like a mosquito, if you know what to do.

Simply put, a ghost is the disembodied soul of someone whose body has died. Instead of going to the “Light,” they remain earthbound.

Ghost hunters on TV do a great job of detecting paranormal activity, but they usually don’t send it to where it needs to go to continue its spiritual evolution: in the Light.

This final step in ghost busting is often overlooked, but is crucial because if it’s not done the ghost will continue to cause problems for itself and others.

Addictions, attachments to familiar places, sudden and unexpected death, suicide, revenge, and fear of “hell” can cause ghosts to stick around. They may have died in your home, wandered in on their own, or followed you home from hospital, cemetery, or bar, for example.

How do you know when you have a ghost hanging out in your home? Signs include unexplained noises and voices, objects disappearing, electronics turning on and off by themselves, young children seeing people you cannot, lights flickering, unexplained smells or hot or cold spots, feeling like you’re being watched, seeing shadows out of the corner of your eye, pets acting strangely, a sudden urge to overeat, drink, smoke, or do drugs (especially if you cannot attribute the urge to anything in particular), and nightmares.

Fortunately, you can help the ghost and yourself relatively easily with the following steps.

1) Identify the energy. Is it a guide or a ghost? Higher level guides are not abusive or negative. A guide or loved one who has crossed over will pop in to help and you’ll feel uplifted. If your ghost is a loved one who died, realize that it’s better for both of you if they go to the Light.

2) Research the home and area history. Did someone die in the home or area? Is or was there previously a bar, crack house, burial ground, morgue, cemetery or hospital nearby?

3) Sometimes ghosts don’t realize they’re dead or being bothersome. Therefore, firmly yet calmly explain out loud that he or she is dead, this is your home now, and it’s time to move on to the Light (point upwards).

For more stubborn energies, use these next steps. Make sure you are sober and centered during this process or you’ll open yourself up to the risk of possession.

4) Utilize the Light. Spiritually protect yourself by visualizing a bright, white Light. Pretend the sun is shining brightly and, or lightning is striking and filling you and every corner of every room.

5) Burn sage. You can find sage at health food and metaphysical stores and online. Light the sage, hold over an ashtray or plate, then walk clockwise around each room while imagining the space being purified by the smoke.

6) Use step 3 above again and then call in their loved ones from other side to help explain that it’s time to return “home.”

7) If the energy does not want to leave, call in God, guides of the Light, and for tougher cases, archangels Michael and Sandalphon for assistance in guiding the lost soul(s) to the Light. These energies are always willing and able to help, but you must ask.

*Important* Do not simply cast out a ghost from your home because it will wander into another home. Instead, always guide it to the Light. Once there, it won’t return as an earthbound spirit and cause harm to itself or others.

For more challenging cases, utilize the services of a Spiritual Detox, spirit releasement, or ghost removal expert. Or, use our Spiritual Detox. Only use experts who send the unwanted energies to the Light (make sure to ask), have a good track record, and do not charge outrageously high fees (avoid “psychics” who charge $1000s for “spell removal”). The best ghost busters will calmly and firmly communicate with the energy, call in plenty of spiritual assistance and protection, and guide them to the Light.

Can Ghosts Hurt you or Actually Touch you?

Ghosts are usually conceived as vestiges of the dead who have not been able to pass entirely into the heavenly (or infernal) realms. Ghost-hunting researchers encounter entities that seem to have some kind of post-life trauma. Ghosts have died cruel or shocking deaths, witnessed terrible things before they died, lost something very dear to them which they still cling to after death.

Perhaps the film, Ghost, with Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, is not a perfect paradigm of what Ghosts really are, but it does have some things in common with the above definition. Swayze, like the Ghosts we speak of, is hanging around because of the cruel manner of its death and that it could bring some kind of danger to his girlfriend. Patrick’s lingering on Earth is a temporary phenomenon, often due to trauma or to hanging onto one’s surroundings. Some accounts of Ghosts would say that Ghosts are often just fragments of better, more whole personalities that have not passed on to other dimensions of the Afterlife.

The film Ghost may be flawed in many ways, but perhaps it can give us some framework for addressing some of the questions about the reality and behaviour of Ghosts as addressed through historical anecdote, contemporary reports, parapsychological studies and ghost-hunting. For instance, in the film, Swayze learns to influence matter from a strange, half-insane ghost on a subway.

In fact, can Ghosts hurt you or actually touch you? I would say that many people believe that Ghosts can touch you and some say they can hurt you and even kill you. Many people report a ghostly touch. For instance, Molly Stewart, licensed with the International Ghost Hunters Society, reports that Ghosts have reportedly pulled the hair of guests on her Salem, Massachusetts tour. Ghosts pull the hair In China, for instance, Ghosts killed by drowning are said to kill people in order to prevent them from reincarnating.

In general, Ghosts seems to be making contact because they are “stuck” in some pattern, expressing their pain or fear- or sometimes. Like Swayze as he reaches out to Moore in the film, Ghosts actually want to tell us something, something as strange as how they were killed or to assure us about something. But not everyone has the same degree of sensitivity to them.

It would seem, if you believe Sylvia Browne, that disembodied spirits, including relatives, are very close to this world. And, they attempt contact a lot, but we do not recognize it. In other, more tribal, shamanistic cultures that contact is perhaps more frequent and expected but these cultures don’t necessarily keep written records in any quantity so it may be difficult to know.

Perhaps with our EMF and “white noise” machines, science is coming closer to some kind of answer about contacting Ghosts? Why hasn’t it found that answer yet? Well, looking for Ghosts might be compared to wanting to study sea creatures at a certain depth, but not having the science of submersibles developed enough to be able to go there securely and stay long enough to take photographs. The Ghosts are there but we don’t have the technology.

To Predict Global Climate Change Look to the Sun

A trip to the beach during the summer requires the use of proper suntan lotion to prevent a very bad sunburn. In fact, a hot summer day makes us often retreat from the sun into the cover of nearby shade. However, a cold winter day will often make us long for the warmth of the sun’s direct rays.

When we plan each day, it is around the sun. The sun determines our scheduled activities in the daylight and during the dark of each night. The changing seasons are a function of the number of hours of sunlight. So, if the sun is such a factor in our lives each day, why do we not even consider the sun as a catalyst for future global climate change?

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been looking in the wrong place for the cause of global climate change. It’s global climate change projections do not include the influence of the sun. As a result, it’s computer-generated model, which predicts a one-degree Fahrenheit increase in global temperature in each decade of this century due to human-emitted carbon dioxide gas, is in need of drastic repair.

The truth is that it is becoming clearer with each passing day that global climate change is a function of the sun and not a function of an increase in man-made CO2 emissions. The fact is that global temperatures have not increased in the last ten years, since 1998, even with a significant global increase in CO2. Also, consider that the first half of this year (2008) was actually the coolest of the last five years, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

So, the current trend of global temperature is becoming colder, not warmer, despite the continued increase in CO2. Of course, the reality for the United Nations is that, in all probability, the extent of their error is about to soon get much worse. Since they are looking at the wrong catalyst of global climate change, they really have no idea what is about to happen next. To more adequately predict global temperature in the next few decades, the IPCC should be looking at the activity of the sun.

Indeed, studying the sun is exactly what astrophysicist Dr. Willie Soon, a researcher at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has been doing for years. Dr. Soon has identified a clear link between the sun’s activity as indicated by it’s magnetic activity and temperature variations in the Arctic and Greenland over a period of time of about 130 years.

Dr. Soon chose this area for study since it has good temperature records and is an area sensitive to climate change, so that the signal from any one climatic influence should be easier to spot. He also says he can point to a physical mechanism in the circulation of the ocean linking the sun’s influence on temperature in the region.

Dr. Soon discussed the conclusions of his research work recently as follows: “Global temperature change can be attributed to slight variations in the sun’s energy output, not man-made carbon dioxide emissions.”

He continues, “When the sun is slightly brighter, meaning giving more light to Earth’s system, the temperature warms in the Arctic. With the cooling that we observed in the Arctic from the 1940s to the 1970s, guess what the sun is doing? It’s actually dimming slightly, ever so slightly. And then, guess what happened after the late 1970s? The sun brightens again.”

Meanwhile, a new research paper from the Astronomical Society of Australia also identifies the sun as the catalyst for global climate change. The paper contends that the level of activity on the Sun will significantly diminish sometime in the next decade and remain low for about 20 to 30 years. On each occasion that the Sun has done this in the past the World’s mean temperature has dropped by 1 – 2 degrees C.

Of course, all this recent research just confirms earlier findings about the sun’s role in global climate change. Consider that the sun’s influence in the long term cooling and warming of the planet was discovered by the Danish Meteorological Institute in 1991. The Institute released a study using data that went back centuries which showed that global temperatures closely tracked solar cycles.

Then, several years later, a Hoover Institution Study examined the same historical data and came to a similar conclusion. “The effects of solar activity and volcanoes are impossible to miss. Temperatures fluctuated exactly as expected, and the pattern was so clear that, statistically, the odds of the correlation existing by chance were one in 100,” according to Hoover fellow Bruce Berkowitz.

As world politicians and the United Nations continue a misguided global warming focus on man-made CO2 emissions, evidence of the sun ‘s role in global climate change continues to grow.

So, it should not be surprising that to predict global climate change in the decades ahead we should look to the sun, just like we do in preparation for each calendar day.

The Amazing Physics of Archery

When you shoot an arrow from an archery bow, it appears to go straight to the target or at least where you aimed. However, there is a lot more physics going on that is unseen. The arrow does anything but go straight to the target.

When an arrow is released, it produces a great kinetic energy that causes the arrow to bend right, than left, than right, than left again etc. until it hits the target. All this is done in a fraction of a second. First, when the arrow is released, the string moves to the left causing the arrow to bend to the right, than the string moves back to the right, (center of the bow), causing the arrow to bend left. This is done even before the arrow passes the bow riser. As the arrow moves ahead, this left right pattern continues a little less each time until it hits the target. If you’re a left hand shooter, the opposite pattern happens.

The spine, or stiffness of the arrow plays a major role in determining how much it will bend. If the spine is too weak, it will cause the arrow to bend excessively. This cuts down on arrow speed and penetration, and your shot won’t be as powerful as it could have been. If the spine is too strong, the arrow will not bend, (vibrate), properly and this will cut down on accuracy. The release force of the bow plays a major role in determining what spine strength you should use.

Another important factor in determining accuracy is the fletchings. Your fletchings or feathers should be in good condition.

There is a lot of debate on the proper way to shoot a bow and how to aim. To be accurate, you must sight down the arrow shaft and not the center of the bow. There is no two ways about it. You can use mechanical things such as peep sights, distance measuring devices, etc., but this is all designed to help you sight down the arrow shaft and determine the gravitational trajectory of the shot. Expert archers seldom use mechanical devices. If you’re a right handed shooter, when you sight down the arrow shaft, the median center of the bow will automatically be offset a certain distance to the right of target center. The opposite is true if you are a lefty. This is because your arrow is skewed, (angled) from bow center where the arrow is nocked on the string, to where it butts against the side of the bow or arrow shelf. Despite the skew, and all the arrow bending going on, it will travel along a path as determined by sighting from the rear to the front of the arrow shaft in direct line with the intended target.

Science in Daily Life

In the history of mankind, advent of Science is the greatest blessing. Science has come to relieve mankind from sufferings, ignorance and to control nature. It has been defined as a systematized body of wisdom and knowledge which can give rise to greater and greater inventions. Science has also been known as a faithful servant of man who serves all his life and as per the orders of man. Science can be harmful if we misuse it.

Science has brought about far-reaching changes in every sphere of our daily life. Now everybody can afford to avail the benefits of luxuries and comforts created by Science. Science has made goods cheap and readily available and has brought them within reach of every individual. All kinds of gadgets of music, entertainment and communication have been brought to our door with the help of Science. Surely, the life of man is very different from what it used to be few years back. Truly, Science has given ears to the deaf, eyes to the blind and limbs to the crippled.

In everyday live, we have to communicate with different friends and relatives, various official people and for general purposes. And many people to be contacted can be at very far off distances. However, time and distance both have been conquered by Science. Whether we want to communicate or travel, both are possible within seconds. For communication, we have telephones, mobiles, wireless, E-mail, VSATs and internet etc., For faster traveling, aeroplanes are being used. Railways have made journeys swift, safe and comfortable. Entire world has shrunk into a small family. Modern ships have conquered turbulent waters and are perfectly safe for traveling and transportation of goods.

Health is wealth. This has been made possible with modern machines. Science has invented ways to peep inside the human body to tackle diseases of human beings through X-ray machines. Diseases can easily be detected and various tests conducted within a matter of few seconds. Complicated operations are possible and are successful with the help of equipment and machines invented with the help of Science. Human life would get transformed into new horizons and heights of prosperity when atomic energy is fully utilized for peaceful purposes.

A big contribution of science in our daily life is electricity. Without electricity, there would have been complete darkness after evening hours and no industry could function without the power of electricity. We have been able to control the effects of weather change with electrical energy. All fans, coolers and air-conditioners in summer and all kinds of heating gadgets in winter, functions with the help of electricity. Entertainment through cinema is one of the most remarkable invention of science in our daily life. It provides us cheap and enjoyable pastime and comfort from tensions of daily life. Now each household has television and radios which are the fastest medium of mass communication made possible by Science.

Science is proving to be of great help in our daily life. The world would have come to a standstill without inventions of Science. There is shortage of space everywhere and as such, high – rise buildings are constructed both for commercial and residential purposes. Inventions of lifts working in these buildings have made life very easy. A housewife can cook taste with the help of electricity run kitchen machines. Thus she saves a lot of her cooking time and is able to devote that precious time in many other activities related to family life. The washing of clothes for her has become really an enjoyable game of few minutes. Even she need not run here and there spreading wet clothes for drying. All this is possible with the production of fully automatic washing machines.

In spite of Science as a blessing in our daily life, we remain in constant fear of mass destruction weapons invented by Science. Another disadvantage of science has been the misuse of mass media for propaganda. Sometimes information stories facts are blown out of proportion leading to tension among the masses. Much of communal tension within the country has been the creation of media. Mass media is used by anti-social elements to spread rumours and false information. Once a story is circulated, it spreads like a forest fire, thanks to mass media. It is certainly upto mankind to utilize the benefits of Science for welfare of all or to indulge in making mass destruction weapons for miseries of future generations. Science can further be utilized to make our daily life more prosperous, comfortable and full of happiness.

How To Get Rid Of Spiders On Your Boat

One of the most common questions I hear when I visit the marina is “how do you get rid of spiders on your boat?” This is a yearly struggle for many boat owners. Spiders seem to find their way into every nook and cranny of your hull. Inside and out – spiders make their homes everywhere!

So how do you get rid of spiders? And more importantly, how do you keep them off your boat and your dock? This article will explore several options for spider control in marine applications.

A Spider

First, let’s talk about what not to do. A lot of people have used the “bug bombs” and foggers in their homes or garages in the past. While those may be okay solutions around the house, they are not a good idea on your boat. Most spider repelling foggers contain harmful chemicals. You might not have any problems using it in your large garage or house (so long as you keep your pets and kids out for a few hours or days). But using a fogger in your boat can be troublesome. These potentially harmful chemicals coat every surface inside your boat and can be incredibly difficult to get out. The smell can be overwhelming. And in such a small space, you might find yourself dealing with odors and pesticides for weeks after bombing your boat. I don’t recommend this method for my fellow boat owners.

If you spend any time around other boaters, more than likely somebody has told you to simply leave the spiders alone. They eat other pests and can be beneficial in many ways. If you and your spouse can live with your spiders, then go for it! I’m all about “live and let live.”

Here are a couple other tricks:

  • Place a couple dryer sheets throughout your boat. I’m not entirely sure why this seems to work, but I’ve heard a few local boaters who swear by this method. It also works for mosquitoes! Just stick a dryer sheet in your pocket when you’re outside.
  • Vacuum your boat thoroughly. While this is not a miracle solution, doing this once a year can make a huge difference. Remove everything you can from inside your boat. Shake everything out and clean it completely. Meanwhile, vacuum out every corner of your boat. Open every hatch, lift every cover, and get in ever small space you can.
  • Install screens on as many openings as possible. This is another obvious solution. But many people overlook it!
  • Make sure you remove any eggs you find! You might only notice a couple spiders hanging out, but rest assured – they may have laid hidden eggs containing hundreds of spiders.
  • Try sticking some moth balls in a coffee can and leaving the can open on your boat when you aren’t there. When you take your boat out for the day, just stick the lid on the can and sail away!

I hope some of these solutions can help you enjoy the boating season even more for years to come! Best of luck. One of these solutions is bound to help you get rid of spiders on your boat.

Raised Bed Gardening

There are as many ways to structure a garden as there are different types of gardens themselves. One form of gardening that is becoming more popular is raised bed gardening. Raised bed gardening consists of planting in elevated beds of soil, whether in large planter boxes, or even bigger areas you construct yourself. Raised bed gardening has many advantages, and a few disadvantages as well. A review of the pros and cons can be helpful in deciding if this type of gardening is for you.

raised-bed

Pros:
1. If you have poor soil, raised bed gardens allow you to prepare your own rich mix of soil above ground for growing your plants.
2. Your gardening areas will be easier to access because you won’t have to bend over as much, thus reducing fatigue and injury to the knees and back.
3. Raised beds are also ideal for elderly or disabled gardeners who are unable to reach down to the ground, and they can be constructed at almost any height to meet the gardener’s needs
4. Plants are easy to keep organized. For example, you can plant tomatoes in one elevated section and peppers in another.
5. Dead leaves and other garden debris will be confined to their own area, helping you maintain a tidier look in your yard.
6. You can prepare special beds of soil tailored to various plants. For example, plants that need a highly acidic soil can be grouped in one area, and you can prepare the soil to the right pH specifically for their needs.
7. In heavy rains, there is less chance of soil erosion.
8. Rabbits, moles, and other garden pests are less likely to be able to access your plants.
9. Raised bed gardens are ideal for longer rooted crops such as carrots that need several inches to a foot of good quality soil.
10. Raised bed gardening is a great option if you have very little space. Elevated planting areas can even be constructed on a small deck or patio area for growing a collection of herbs, vegetables, or flowers.

Cons:
1. Any tilling will probably have to be done by hand. It’s difficult to use tractors or rotary tillers in elevated planting areas.
2. The initial up front cost of constructing raised bed gardens is more expensive than simply tilling a traditional garden into your soil. However, kits can be purchased online that make the construction process faster and easier.
3. The edges or borders of the planting areas must be well reinforced during the initial construction, or they may begin to break down over time, creating and ongoing maintenance issue.
4. If you live in a very dry climate, raised beds will dry out faster and require more frequent watering. On the other hand, if you live in a very moist climate, your plants will be less susceptible to root rot from over watering.
5. Elevated planting areas are not suitable to vining or sprawling plants such as pumpkins, squash, watermelons, or various climbing plants such as morning glory, clematis, or trumpet vine.
6. The materials used for constructing raised bed gardens should be carefully considered. Treated lumber or railroad ties soaked in creosote should not be used. These chemicals will leak out into the soil over time, poisoning and killing your plants.

Putting in raised beds can be a big investment in time and money, but it will also pay you back in better plants, more gardening room, and easier access to your gardening areas. A careful evaluation of all the pros and cons will help you make the right decision for you and your yard. Whatever your decision, careful planning is always the key to successful results in the garden.

Writing Ghost Stories

Why do some ghost stories keep you up all night, staring at your closet and checking under your bed? Why do other ghost stories produce giggles or complete boredom?

Here are thoughts on what makes the PERFECT ghost story.

1) Atmosphere

Haunted House Setting For Ghost Stories

There is no ghost story worth one goose bump without atmosphere. Readers need to be gradually removed from their cozy surroundings and brought into the spooky world of the ghost. The author should involve all the senses including sight, smell, sound and touch. A skilled author can evoke other ‘senses’ such as premonition or ‘women’s intuition’. The ghost story requires the reader to be shown the atmosphere, not told. Out of all the elements that create a great ghost story, the atmosphere is probably the most important.

Where should a ghost story take place? A ghost story doesn’t have to happen in a decrepit mansion or a graveyard. Expert ghost authors such as Ambrose Bierce or Peter Straub use various settings for their ghost stories including cabins in the woods, or a coffee shop. It is how the authors use the settings to produce the willies that matter.

2) Emotion

Fear

You can’t have a scary read without the characters feeling escalating levels of fright. The reader will identify with the gradual feeling of dread and begin to feel the same. The best stories creep up on the reader with gentle nudges into fear. Today’s reader will either laugh or fall asleep if presented with a bludgeoning approach to a ghost story. The reader requires a modicum of belief to be truly scared.

3) Plot

Stalking Plot

A ghost story needs a plot. The reader craves a reason to continue to peruse the pages. An eye-catching beginning, a breathless middle, and a satisfying ending are paramount.

Be original. Nothing will loose the interest of a reader more than a rehashed plot. If I read another story about a group of teenagers abandoned in an old house in the rain, I will wear a dress. And that will be sure to make the neighbors scream!

Create a mystery. All great ghost stories have a mystery behind them. The reader becomes involved with the characters in solving the story behind the haunting. Don’t present a ghost without a background. Remember the ghost is the primary character of the ghost story, and needs to be a living part of the story. Not exactly living, however…

So get your quills out, draw the curtains, light your candle and begin to write your ghost story…I dare you!
